A big step up from a rotary grinder. We bought this in 2007 and have been very happy with it. The grind is pretty consistent and I use it every day with my french press. I wouldn't pay any more for a coffee grinter. It's by no means a premium item, and it sounds like a jet engine in your kitchen, but it works.
I've been using a cheap grinder for years and every time I take the lid off it makes a mess and I get coffee grounds all over the counter. It's not messy like my old grinder. Also, I had to guess at when the coffee was at the right grind and measure the it with a scoop. Now all I have to do is load a pound of coffee in my new Cuisinart Supreme, keep the setting on the number of cups I want to make and press a button to get exactly the amount of coffee I need each day. I love it and I would never go back. Definitely worth the money.
I have had numerous Cuisinart appliances, including the grinder I was replacing and was up to this point satisfied with their performance, albeit they never lasted as long as I thought they should. I ordered a Fractory-Reconditioned Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Coffee Burr Mill DDV-16FR. I gave them benefit of doubt, though, with coffee makers and grinders because I used them more than the usual customer. What a mistake that was. Relying on Cuisinart's high profile name for appliances, I felt this would be a smart purchase; however, after opening and trying to use it, it never worked one time. I will not either buy nor use Cuisinart again.
We are able to grind plenty of coffee of congregational use -- quickly. The big commercial grinders were WAY beyond our budget.
We started using Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee and wanted to buy it in the economical 5 lb. I was purchasing a coffee grinder for our congregation.
So I had searched for an affordable grinder that would grind more than the few cups that my home grinder would put out. whole bean bags.
We need to grind more than one pot's worth at a time. This Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Coffee Burr Mill CCM-16FR has turned out to be perfect for us.
It is easy to use and easy to take apart and clean.
I suggest you not to buy such products from cuisart through amazon. I told them that it was never used because it didn't work.
It never worked either with me or with my son to whom I gifted it. This is a piece of junk.
I called Cusinart Customer Services and was informed that it was out of warranty. I am really surprised that Amazon does not have any quality control.
They don't ckeck before shipping any refurbished products. It seems that Cusinart has a great way of dumping their sub-standard products because amazon can sell produts without any problems.
Save your money.
